Torrevieja - Tourist information on the Costa Blanca

Torrevieja, Spain is located on the coast of the southern Costa Blanca and is about halfway between Alicante and Murcia. Both airports can easily be reached within 30 minutes.

It is a small seaside resort on the Mediterranean Sea on the Spanish Costa Blanca. The meaning of the name comes from the "old tower". In the town of Torrevieja, just over 100,000 people live today. Due to tourism, this population is increasing in the summer to as many as 200,000 people.

The city is surrounded by two large and beautiful saltwater lagoons. These are the salt lakes of La Mata and Torrevieja (the Salinas). Remarkable especially to the salinas are the specific pink color. This is caused by the most typical inhabitant of the lake Artemia Salina. The Artemia Salina is a small lobster that can be well grounded in the lakes because of the high concentration of salt in the water. Of course this also attracts other animals such as a number of real flamingo colonies.

In the vicinity there are three beautiful golf courses: Villamartin Golf, Campoamor Golf and Las Ramblas Golf, which are open all year round.
