San Javier is one of the larger municipalities located on the Mar Menor . The community was founded in 1836. It takes its name from the chapel built in the seventeenth century, dedicated to the missionary St Francisco Javier.
An international Jazz festival is organized every year where major jazz artists from all over the world have been present since 1996. San Javier is also home to the Military Academy of the Spanish Air Force and the Patrulla Águila, the Spanish Air Force aerobatic demonstration team. This means you will regularly be treated to an air show.
