Pilar de la Horadada is the southernmost municipality of the Costa Blanca. The name comes from the old watchtower, “Torre Horadada”, which is located directly on the coast. During the reconquest of Spain, numerous towers of this kind were built along the coast. These had to provide protection against invaders from the Mediterranean.
One of these towers is “Torre Horadada”. The tower owes its name to the central hole that is drilled from top to bottom (horadar) and allows communication between the different floors. Until 1986, Pilar de la Horadada was part of the municipality of Orihuela, but has now grown into a municipality with approximately 20,000 inhabitants. Here you will find all the facilities you need; shops, banks, schools, medical facilities, weekly markets and restaurants.
There is also an extensive network with more than 40km of cycle paths that connect the center of the village with coastal towns such as Mil Palmeras and Torre de la Horadada on one side and Lo Romero Golf and Campo Verde on the other.
