Murcia (Spanish: Ciudad de Murcia) is a city and municipality in southeastern Spain on the Costa Calida . It is the capital of the region of the same name. On January 1, 2014, the city had 439,712 inhabitants, making it the seventh largest city in Spain. The city was founded in the year 831 AD. 
A high defensive wall of up to 15 meters high was immediately built. When the city became larger and more important, it acquired 95 towers. This indicates how important the city has become over time.

Murcia has a coastline of approximately 250 kilometers long: coves and narrow beaches with rocks. Here is also what seems like a geographical accident, called La Manga. A narrow strip of land, intersected by several canals and openings, that closes the Mar Menor lagoon from the Mediterranean Sea.
Most of the Costa Cálida is very rugged and therefore not overrun by mass tourism like many other costas.
In the 17th century the city was hit by a devastating earthquake. Many important buildings then collapsed. However, beautiful buildings have still been preserved. If you are interested in the history of the city and region, be sure to visit the Museo de la Ciudad, the city museum.
