The 78th Tour of Spain (Vuelta) will start on August 26 in Barcelona with a team time trial of 14.6 kilometers. There is a lot of climbing along the way, including the Tourmalet and the Angliru, after which the successor to Remco Evenepoel will be crowned on September 17 in Madrid.

Organizer Unipublic presented the route of La Vuelta 2023 on Tuesday evening. For the second time in history, the Spanish round will start in Barcelona. This time with a team time trial. The second stage starts from the city of Mataró and ends on Montjuïc in Barcelona.

After the first two arrivals in Barcelona, the peloton will head from Súria to Andorra for a first mountain stage.

In total there are seven mountain stages, two flat stages with an uphill finish, six transition stages and four flat stages. There is also an individual time trial of 25 km.

It is also looking forward to the arrival in France, on the Tourmalet. It will be climbed for the first time in the Vuelta. “The Tourmalet will be a milestone in the history of our round and will be the big eye-catcher this year, together with the Angliru (stage 17),” says race director Javier Guillen. “We also keep looking for new mountains to finish, to show great course. In that search we found climbs in Larra-Belagua, Cruz de Linares and Bejes, but also mountain passes such as Larrau and Issarbe.”
