Licor 43

15.01.2018

The Spanish Licor 43 or "Cuarenta Y Tres" is a sweet Spanish alcoholic herbal drink with a clear vanilla flavor. Licor 43 owes its name to the 43 ingredients used to make the liqueur. Among these all natural ingredients we find both citrus juice and other fruits as well as aromatic plant extracts,

Licor 43 would be descended from a drink that was always made in the vicinity of Cartagena under the name Liquor Mirabilis. During the Roman occupation they initially wanted to ban the Liquor Mirabilis, but it turned out to be a deeply rooted tradition among the local population that they started to commercialize and export to all corners of the Roman Empire.

Cuarenta Y Tres is not only drunk in Spain as liqueur but also drunk as Carajillo, a coffee with alcohol. In addition, many long drinks are known. On the website of Licor 43 you can even find a recipe to prepare pancakes or delicious chicken wings with the liqueur. Licor 43 has an alcohol content of 31%.

Where is Licor 43 produced

The Licor 43 is produced in the southern Spanish city of Cartagena, in the Murcia region. Since the year 1946 it was produced in the industrial area Los Camachos at the factory of Diego Zamora S.A. Diego Zamora went together with his brother Angel, his sister Josefina and Josefina's husband Emilio Restoy to bottle the liqueur with an unbridled enthusiasm. A modest beginning full of passion that would eventually become the Diego Zamora Group.

At the end of 2012, part of the factory moved to a large plot along the highway from Cartagena to La Manga del Mar Menor. The first decade of the 21st century was dominated by an unstoppable international growth. Licor 43 is now being exported to more than sixty countries, making Licor 43 the best-selling Spanish liqueur of all time.
